- Microsoft began to talk about Windows 7 SP1 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 today, though the company wasn't yet ready to announce a beta or release timeline for the service pack. Rumors pegged SP1.
Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 had hit the Release to Manufacturing (RTM) milestone at build 7600.16385 yesterday. Microsoft this week also disclosed the dates for when different groups will be able to get their hands on the final builds of both Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2. It seems, however, that there is some confusion for getting access to the RTM build: the dates aren't the same for both operating systems. Therefore, we've taken the time to put all the dates into a clear table that you can easily refer to:
With all this excitement on the Windows 7 RTM release date, I almost forgot that Microsoft released a second OS to manufacturing, Windows Server 2008 R2. I somehow assumed that the release date would be the same because Windows Server 2008 R2 basically is Windows 7 Server even though Microsoft's management decided against this name.

As you can see, Microsoft isn't disclosing details as readily for some groups as for others. 'We don’t have any additional details at this time with regard to language availability for RTM code,' a Microsoft spokesperson told Ars. Where there is only one date given, it's not clear whether all languages will be available or whether some languages will be available and that the rest will come at a later time. Where there is two dates given, expect all languages to arrive in between those two dates.

We hope that helps clarify things a little bit in terms of who gets what when. In case dates end up changing, which would not be the first time when it comes to Microsoft, we'll let you know.
